Venture to Change
Our Commitment
We are proud to partner with the National Park Service in caring for Death Valley National Park. Our award-winning Play Forever program takes a holistic, collaborative approach to conserving the environment, preserving and protecting cultural resources, and engaging with gateway communities and local indigenous peoples. Here’s what we are up to and how you can help protect Death Valley, too.
Stovepipe's sustainability commitment
We are focusing our efforts in the following areas
PURE GOLD
We installed new solar arrays on the hotel roof. Using pure California sunshine, the arrays generate over 80% of the electricity needed to operate Stovepipe Wells.
WATER WISE
Our comprehensive water conservation strategy allows us to save precious water, while still offering all the conveniences you want on vacation. You can help by turning off taps while shaving or brushing your teeth, reporting leaky faucets or running toilets, and being efficient in the shower.
LANDSCAPING IN THE DESERT
Here at Stovepipe, we keep the grounds natural so you can experience the real—and truly unreal—Death Valley. Landscaping improvements underway include new berms, swales, walking paths, cortan steel interpretive panels, and beds of 100% native plants that require little water to survive.
RECHARGE WHILE YOU RECHARGE
Charge up your electric vehicle at our new EV charging stations located by the General Store.
Your Role in Preserving Death Valley
Every mindful choice you make while at Stovepipe Wells and in the park helps protect this fragile landscape for generations to come. Here’s how you can make a difference.

Reuse
You can help cut down on single-use plastics by choosing reusable options. Throughout Stovepipe Wells and Death Valley, hydration stations are available where you can refill your reusable water bottle with fresh, filtered water—free of charge. Every refill helps reduce plastic waste in the park.

Respect
You play an important role in protecting Death Valley’s unique and fragile environment. By following Leave No Trace principles, you help minimize human impact and preserve the park for everyone. During your stay, please:
- Recycle
- Pack out litter
- Respect wildlife
- Stay on designated trails
- Use provided restroom facilities
- Protect the soundscape by using lower voices
- Take care not to damage sandstone cliffs

Leave No Trace 7 Principles
Stovepipe Wells is proud to be a Gold Certified partner to Leave No Trace, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating people about sustainable outdoor practices through its 7 Principles. Learn more about how you can help protect Death Valley National Park during your visit.
